Joel Pitt AKA Jetpilot – Dr/DJ/AI Engineer, he can’t make up his mind! Jetpilot’s been DJing for 3 years, originally starting out in Christchurch at Indie electro events such as The Mixtape Sessions and The Nu Trend, he eventually progressed in to house and prog. He’s played at outdoor events like the Solstice and Equinox events put on by the Christchurch Massive, festivals in NZ (Canaan Downs 2007/2008 and KiwiBurn) and in the US (Burningman). He’s started out as a laptop DJ, then learnt to use CDJs and vinyl, but ultimately went back to digital controllers for immense creativity available.

Marshall Law (Will Marshall) – Hacker/DJ/Producer. Will is a recent convert to dance music, having a background in orchestral and chamber music, big-band jazz and oldschool industrial. He’s an Ableton user and keen controllerist, with a focus on improvisation and heavy use of custom effects. He plays house, minimal glitch, breaks, psybreaks and occasionally industrial or EBM.

Will is currently working on an as-yet unnamed psytrance EP with Chelfyn, which he hopes to release for the next Speed of Sound. He’s also building an open-source DJing template for Ableton, as well as a Processing/Lemur VJing application with Jetpilot and Kellective.

Chelfyn
Chelfyn has been DJing and Producing dance music for too many years. Originally from the UK, he played trance and techno for nights such as Tinrib Records’ FISH! and the legendary Ripsnorter in Bristol, currently celebrating their 13th year.

His move to NZ in 2001 saw the release of “The Evil Plans of George W Bush III” on his own label TMET recordings, an incubator label which has helped many kiwi artists get their careers off the ground. His DJing career moved in more of a psytrance direction over the following years and he has played many gigs around NZ including seeing in the New Year at Full Circle back in 2005 and playing a live Ableton show at Wonderland.

He has taken a break for the past 3 years while producing “the g33k show” on Alt TV and Kiwi FM, but a recent move to Wellington has stirred his creative juices. He’s dusting off the headphones, writing new psytrance tracks with Marshall Law and getting ready to bring his unique brand of uplifting psy-edged trance and techno to Wellington.

Opdorp
Opdorp is an enthusiast of trance, house and lounge music. Since his experiences with warehouse raves in the 90s the urge to DJ has itched away, leading to a CDJ based setup materialising in his lounge a few years ago beside a set of PA speakers. He has ventured with his DJ toys to warehouses, fields, gardens, lake sides and batches around the lower north island.

A long time interest in Jazz sparked the start of a double life four years ago when he took up Lindy Hop, a partner dance form from 1930s New York that evolved with Jazz and Big Band music. He won the Open Showcase Cup for a dance performance at Windy Lindy weekend in 2009 and has appeared on live and recorded television dancing with various partners.

Opdorp plays a range of music from downbeat cafe lounge, vintage 1930s jazz and blues, through to house and minimal, all mixed with enthusiasm.

VJs and other participants:

Kellective
Kelly a.k.a Kellective is a designer / creative coder / VJ / web-designer / internet addict. The name Kellective comes from kelly’s interest in ‘collective intelligence’ and creative collaborations – such as the magic that happens when the crew of Speed of Sound get together and create events!

Not just a designer who likes pretty pictures, Kelly is a geek and loves to experiment with technology and creative-coding to produce interactive, sound-repsonsive visuals – this interest stemmed from her degree in Digital Media Design where she was introduced to live visuals, building control interfaces and using processing to make interactive art.

Dr Windy
Wendy has brighly coloured hair, and dances a lot. She likes sheep, and is the Keeper of the Rave Decor. If you would like information about sheep or raves, please email her.
